Dean Walsh's BACK FROM FRONT will premiere at Performance Space at CarriageWorks on May 1. Drawing on stories from veterans of World War 2 through to Iraq, this is a powerful and dynamic piece of theatre about the lingering impact of wartime experience on soldiers and their families.
 
From the immediate challenges of re-adjusting to post-war life, to the continuing cycles of violence that can penetrate families for generations to come, this production is an exploration of how ordinary people face the extraordinary impact of war. 
 
With gutsy physicality, cinematic surrounds and a poignant subject, BACK FROM FRONT is an intensely moving theatre experience that addresses issues in both our past and present. It is a story about war and history, children and grandchildren, trauma and violence, love and hope.
 
Dean Walsh is one of Sydney's most highly accomplished independent choreographers and performers. A recipient of the prestigious Robert Helpmann Scholarship, Dean has worked with companies as diverse as Australian Dance Theatre, DV8 Physical Theatre in the UK and No Apology Company in Amsterdam.

In BACK FROM FRONT, his first large-scale group work, Walsh has drawn together a brilliant team of artistic collaborators and dance and theatre performers to create a profound and visually stimulating piece of physical theatre. Video imagery, lighting and movement are blended together seamlessly, creating a plasma-like visual environment which enhances and interacts with the performance.
