| Back in Australia for its second year, the Hola Mexico Film Festival is bigger and better. This year, it will extend to Perth and Brisbane as well as returning to Sydney and Melbourne. The impressive program will be screened from 15 November – 5th December 2007 in Palace Cinemas. The Oscars, The Golden Globes and The Cannes Film Festival have been praising Mexico’s latest films. In 2007 the world saw ten Mexican Oscar nominees, a Mexican taking home the prestigious Jury Prize in Cannes and the list goes on… Australia’s second annual Hola Mexico Film Festival will reflect this talent. Festival Director Samuel Douek says, “Every film made an impact in Mexico and in the international film circuit. We’ve worked really hard in getting them to Australia.” Each of the main ten features of the festival will bring a unique dimension to create a complete cinematic experience: from confronting documentaries to light comedies to raw emotional and inspiring stories. Mexico’s most beloved and nominated directors will be recognised as part of the ‘Tribute to Mexico’. Babel director Alejandro Gonzlaez Iñárritu’s first film Amores Perros will be screened alongside Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toros debut Cronos, and Children Of Men director Alfonso Cuaron’s Solo con tu Pareja. To spice things up a bit, the festival is holding PICANTE SHORTS. Australians have been encouraged to contribute to the festival by creating a spicy short film. The ten best shorts will screen during the festival and Australian film industry judges will award the winner with a trip to Mexico. Complementing the films, the Hola Mexico Film Festival Opening Night Fiesta brings the best Mexican food, music and entertainment to Australia. A night not to be missed! |
