Sydney’s eclectic, electric string quartet, FourPlay, delight in blurring the boundaries between classical and rock music.  
 
With two violas, cello, violin and a bunch of distortion pedals, they perform an assorted repertoire, from original compositions inspired by influences as diverse as folktronica to dub to Klezmer, to their popular covers of The Strokes, Radiohead, Metallica, Depeche Mode and Dr Who.
 
Continuing their intrepid musical explorations, FourPlay will present a special program of new work, exploring improvisation, folktronica, post-rock, dub and drum ‘n’ bass.
 
Since winning the a UNSW band competition in 1995, FourPlay have taken on a role as international ambassadors of the rock string quartet, playing the concert halls of Asia, the gritty rock pubs of Newcastle, British arts centres and the Australian folk festival circuit.
 
They have released four records to date, including three studio recordings and a double remix album, Digital Manipulation, featuring 25 Australian electronic artists remixing FourPlay’s original material.  Their third studio album, Now to the Future was released 2006 and received glowing reviews.
